How can the subject who has traversed the radical phantasy experience the drive? This is the beyond of analysis, and has never been approached. —Jacques Lacan
Who should attend:
This online lecture series is open to all. No prior familiarity with psychoanalysis, Lacanian or otherwise, is required or expected. Students, scholars, clinicians, independent learners — all are welcome to attend!
There will be something for everyone in these sessions on the drive: foundational terms and ideas for new readers of Lacan, advanced mathemes and summative diagrams for seasoned theorists and clinicians, and widely accessible commentaries on many aspects of Lacanian psychoanalysis for everyone in between.
Both sessions will also be recorded and shared with participants, along with any diagrams we develop along the way, so it’ll be easy to catch up on anything you might miss or materials you’d like to review.
When we’ll be meeting and what we'll be reading:
10am-1pm PST | 1pm-3pm EST | 7pm-10pm CET
28 September 2022:
Jacques Lacan, The Four Fundamental Concepts of Psychoanalysis, trans. Alan Sheridan, pp. 161-186, 197-200, 204-206, 267-276. Available HERE.
5 October 2022:
Jacques Lacan, “Position of the Unconscious” & “On Freud’s ‘Trieb’ and the Psychoanalyst’s Desire,” in Écrits, trans. Bruce Fink, pp. 703-725. Available HERE.
Note: We’ll be working through many key passages as a group, so don’t worry if you fall behind on the readings.
Costs to attend:
This series is FREE to attend!
You can also help to sustain Lectures on Lacan by making a donation today. The suggested donation for this two-part series on the drive is $40, but any contribution, no matter how small, allows us to continue providing clear, coherent, and accessible readings of key texts in Lacanian psychoanalysis to as many clinicians, scholars, students, and independent learners as possible — and without ever turning anyone away for lack of funds.
How to attend:
We’ll use the Zoom link below for both sessions. And all are welcome to join us, so please help us spread the word by sharing this invite with friends and colleagues, posting it on your socials, and forwarding it to relevant listservs.
