Lectures on Lacan started with a bang last March, and we’ve been moving fast ever since. Standalone series on Seminars III, X, XI, and XIV, podcast episodes on a host of essays in Écrits, and two special sessions on THE DRIVE — it’s been a whirlwind of reading, thinking, discussing, and, best of all, community building.
Our new lecture series on Seminar XVI promises to be just as expansive. But Seminar XVI also asks us to slowdown, mark our words, and pay special attention to Lacan’s. And if you’ve made it to the mustard pot in his opening remarks, followed by his “appeal to Marx” on the next page, you know exactly why!
So I’ve decided to followup last week’s excerpts from our recent lecture series on The Logic of Fantasy, with some quick and hopefully elucidating comments on the opening pages of Seminar XVI — comments which, in turn, provoked the first three full-length lectures in our new series, which registered participants gained access to last night, along with one of the most comprehensive diagrams we’ve developed to date:
