The Phallic Drive?
Remember this diagram from Seminar X? It came up again in last week's get together — and it's got me wondering.
All the key drives are here: oral, anal, scopic, and invocatory. But what about the minus-phi at the diagram's peak? Is there also a phallic drive? Not in the summative, integrative sense of a so-called "genital drive" but, instead, as another partial representative of human sexuality at the level of enjoyment?
And if so, what would be the partial object of the phallic drive? Maybe the primordial "says-no" of the unary trait, as Lacan dubs it in Seminar XI — the the same original signifier of prohibition repressed by the neurotic, disavowed by the pervert, and foreclosed by the psychotic?
Suffice it to say, I’m looking forward to the next chapter on our reading list: “The Deconstruction of the Drive.”
