I sat down last week to prepare the opening lecture in our new series on La Troisième, in keen anticipation of our first live discussion on Friday, 13 June.

But when I arrived at Lacan’s two major redrawings of the Borromean knot, I found myself outlining four lectures instead! My goal throughout will be the same: to offer a clear, coherent, and complete account of both diagrams.
