1 - 1 = Ø
Our live lecture series on The Logic of Fantasy (Seminar 14) begins on Wednesday, and I couldn’t be more excited to reconvene with y’all!
Among our opening themes, one in particular is sure to blow some minds — or at least my own! — and already has me eyeing Seminars 19 and 20 as potential next stops for Lectures on Lacan: THE ONE.
Or, as Lacan puts it at the start of The Logic of Fantasy, the “One too many” (Un-en-trop). Gotta love that Un — in French, German, and English alike! Crucial to so many key concepts in Lacanian psychoanalysis!
And this isn’t the first time we’ve encountered THE ONE, of course. Recall, for instance, the algebraic post at the start of our series on The Four Fundamental Concepts of Psychoanalysis: φ > [(-φ) > a] > d.
There are several equally lit passages at the start of Seminar 14 — all of which I look forward to discussing on Wednesday. Pages 10-11 and 50-52 alone are soooo good, especially with regard to that “Ø” in the title of this post.
More on Wednesday — and with much excitement in the meantime!
